Curtis’ brother, who is also a police officer in Sherborn, gave his brother a strong handshake and a hug. Soon after, Tedstone’s wife and two children came over with proud expressions on their faces. As his son hugged his leg, and his wife pointed the pin towards his chest, Tedstone let out a smile.
“Don’t stab a sergeant,” he said.
Sgt. David Bento said that he couldn’t be happier with the two selected officers.
“They both show leadership ability,” he said. “And they work well with other officers.”
Curtis, who has been with Sherborn Police for a year and a half, had previously worked for the Framingham State College Police and then the Bridgewater State College Police. At the meeting, he thanked the chief for considering him for the job.
“I’m just pleased to be chosen for the position,” he said.
Tedstone, who has been an officer in Sherborn for 13 years, said that he was glad to be a part of the department as well because he loves the town so much.
“There’s a great group of people here,” he said. “I think its great.”
Tedstone’s wife, Jen Tedstone, said she was very excited about her husband’s success, and that she couldn’t be prouder.
“He’s been pushing himself really hard,” she said. “And it’s great to see him get this accomplishment.”
As his friends and fellow officers congratulated him, nobody said it better than his young son.
“He’s just awesome,” he said.
